Yes, if you want alerts you actually read. Normal motion detection triggers on anything that moves: cats, palm trees, headlights and shadows. AI detection only alerts for people or vehicles, so false alarms drop sharply and searching recordings becomes much faster.
Most people switch off motion alerts within a week. Every gust of wind moves a palm frond, every car's headlights sweep across the gate, and the street cats never stop. AI detection fixes this, and in 2026 it is in most mid-range cameras, not just expensive ones.
What "AI" actually means on a camera
The camera (or recorder) has a small processor trained to recognise the shape of a person and a vehicle. It still sees all movement but only raises an alert when the moving thing is one of those. Hikvision calls this AcuSense; Dahua calls it WizSense. Other brands have their own names.
The features you'll see
- Human and vehicle filter: alerts only for people or cars.
- Line crossing: an alert when someone crosses a line you draw, such as your gate or a boundary wall.
- Intrusion: an alert when someone enters and stays in a zone, for example your car park after hours.
- Smart search: in playback, show only clips with people or only with vehicles. Finding the moment a delivery came is seconds, not an hour of scrolling.
- Deterrence: some cameras flash a light or play a warning when a person is detected at night.
Where it helps most in the UAE
- Villas: gate and boundary walls, with alerts only at night
- Warehouses and yards: intrusion alerts after closing time
- Shops: after-hours alerts at the shutter
- Building sites: people on site outside working hours
Can my existing cameras do it?
Sometimes. There are two routes:
- AI cameras: the detection runs in each camera. Best accuracy.
- AI recorder: some newer NVRs and DVRs run human and vehicle detection on the video from ordinary cameras. A recorder upgrade can add the feature without replacing every camera.
Send us your camera and recorder models and we'll tell you which applies.
Set it up properly
- Draw tight zones that cover only your property.
- Use schedules, so alerts arrive at night and not every time your family walks in.
- Set sensitivity to medium first, then adjust after a week.
- Make sure the scene is lit at night, or the camera has good IR or colour night vision. AI needs a clear picture to work.
Frequently asked questions
Does AI detection replace 24/7 recording?
No. Keep continuous recording on and use AI for alerts and fast searching. You get the full record plus useful notifications.
Is face recognition the same thing?
No. Human detection only knows that something is a person. Face recognition identifies who the person is, which needs special cameras and raises extra privacy obligations.
Do AI cameras cost much more?
Less than most people expect. Many current 4MP cameras include human and vehicle detection as standard.
