A warehouse concentrates value in one place and is often quiet after hours. CCTV can deter theft, document deliveries and support insurance claims, but only if the design follows how goods and people actually move.
Start with the flow
Map the journey: gate, yard, loading bay, receiving area, racking, dispatch, exit. Put cameras at each transition, because that is where goods change hands.
Key positions
Gate and vehicle entrance
Capture the vehicle and its number plate. Use a dedicated plate camera with the right lens and angle rather than a general camera. Consider AI-based detection and ANPR for alerts.
Loading bays
Cover the bay door, the truck and the staging area. Two angles reduce disputes about what was loaded.
Aisles and high-value stock
Cameras at aisle ends, with extra cover for valuable stock and cages. Mount above forklifts' reach.
Pedestrian doors and fire exits
Cover every door that could be used to carry goods out.
Perimeter
Fence lines and dark corners benefit from thermal or good low-light cameras, with line-crossing alerts after hours.
Office and cash areas
If the warehouse holds cash or documents, cover that room as well.
Design challenges
- Long cable runs: PoE is limited to about 100 metres per run. Use switches or fibre for distance.
- Lighting: very dark halls need good night performance or added lighting.
- Height: cameras on high ceilings need appropriate lenses, often varifocal, and safe access for maintenance.
- Dust and heat: use sealed, heat-rated cameras.
Storage and power
Warehouse systems have many cameras, so storage needs to be calculated carefully. Use our storage guide, and add a UPS plus redundant disks (RAID) where required.
Link CCTV with access control
Combining cameras with access control records who entered each door and when, and lets you review the matching video.
Compliance
In Sharjah, warehouses are commonly covered by police CCTV requirements. See Sharjah Police CCTV requirements. In Dubai, check SIRA: SIRA CCTV requirements.
Maintenance
Dust and spiders affect lenses and IR illumination. Schedule regular cleaning and recording checks through CCTV maintenance.
Get a site survey
We survey warehouses and industrial units across Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman. Request a CCTV quote or contact our team.
Conclusion
Follow the stock, cover every handoff, plan for cable distance and storage, and maintain the system so it works when needed.
Frequently asked questions
How many cameras does a warehouse need?
It depends on size and layout. Start from entrances, loading bays and high-value stock, then add aisles and the perimeter.
Do warehouses in Sharjah need police-approved CCTV?
Warehouses are commonly among the activities expected to have compliant CCTV. Confirm the requirement for your licence activity.
