Quick answer

Video Guard is SIRA's monitoring system for CCTV in Dubai. It watches the performance of your cameras and recorder and reports faults, so a system that stops working gets noticed. SIRA lists three device packages: 4 ports for AED 3,300, 8 ports for AED 4,550 and 14 ports for AED 5,800.

A CCTV system that's been approved can still fail quietly: a hard disk dies, a camera gets unplugged during a fit-out, the recorder freezes after a power cut. Nobody notices until footage is needed. Video Guard exists to close that gap.

What Video Guard does

SIRA, Dubai's Security Industry Regulatory Agency, describes Video Guard as a monitoring system for CCTV surveillance systems, covering performance and faults, to make sure systems keep working.

In practice, a small Video Guard device sits between your recorder and your internet connection. It reports the health of your system, so camera loss, recording problems and a recorder going offline are flagged rather than discovered weeks later.

What it costs

SIRA's Video Guard page lists three device packages, based on the number of ports:

Package Ports Listed price
ES-81V 4 AED 3,300
ES-51V 8 AED 4,550
ES-41I 14 AED 5,800

Prices are as listed by SIRA at the time of writing. Check the current figures, and whether any subscription or installation charges apply, before you budget.

Who it's for

SIRA's page shows business types such as hotels, petrol stations, supermarkets and watch shops. Whether your premises must connect depends on your activity and SIRA's requirements for it. Confirm this with SIRA or a SIRA-licensed company before buying.

How connection usually works

  1. The Video Guard device is connected to the internet line.
  2. Your recorder (DVR, NVR or VMS) is connected to the device.
  3. The recorder's details and channels are registered in the Video Guard system.
  4. The status is checked to confirm the recorder shows as online.

SIRA-regulated work in Dubai must be carried out by a SIRA-licensed company.

Get your system ready first

Video Guard reports faults; it doesn't fix them. Before connection:

  • Check the hard disk shows Normal and overwrite is on.
  • Make sure every camera shows a picture and records continuously.
  • Set the correct time zone (GMT+4) and automatic time.
  • Put the recorder and network equipment on a UPS.
  • Use a stable internet line, ideally not shared with heavy office use.

Frequently asked questions

Is Video Guard the same as SIRA approval?

No. Approval covers whether your CCTV meets SIRA's requirements. Video Guard monitors the system afterwards for performance and faults.

Do I need Video Guard for my villa?

Video Guard is aimed at regulated premises such as hotels, petrol stations and retail. Private villas are not the typical case.

My system shows faults on Video Guard. Can you fix it?

Yes. Offline cameras, failed disks, recording settings and power problems are standard repairs. Send us the fault details on WhatsApp.
